SU-005: Frozen Teens/Street Legal split 45 7"
Released: 2011
Pressing: 200 white vinyl/100 Glow in the Dark/100 clear vinyl/100 orange vinyl
SU-005 "This record is fantastic. Both bands put out really good demos last year and are now sharing this record for their vinyl debut. Frozen Teens come to us from Minneapolis and play catchy-as-fuck style rock 'n' roll punk. Real intense guitar riffs that just cut right through you. It's in the school of the Marked Men and/or Cola Freaks. On the flip side, Street Legal fucking destroys. Between them and the Studded Bird, Kansas City is looking real exciting these days. Street Legal plays a real dark, bleak, gritty style of punk sung with the strained voice of a tired living but with the enthusiasm of wide open possibilities. If you're still listening to Spitboy, you'll love this shit! Great split EP, heavily recommended."

This high-octane power trio hails from the tiny college town of Chico, Ca. where the band is a ferocious anomaly in an inland sea of keg-foam and apathy.

MMU001: Black Fork 'The First Fork Years' LP
On Mess Me Up records
Pressing: 500 blue vinylMMU001 First Fork Years is a collection of twenty-three songs from all of BLACK FORK's (now) out of print 7-inch EPs, compilation tracks, as well as unreleased demo tracks recorded at 924 Gilman by MARSHALL STAX (BLATZ) back in the 1990s.
Black Fork was a punk band from the East Bay, CA, that played mostly during the years 1993-'97. In 1995, an LP had been recorded, but due to a series of setbacks, the songs were divided into two EPs and released on labels that almost immediately folded. There is also a split 7-inch with comrades-in-arms Los Canadians, as well as tracks on various compilations, including Recess Records' Play at Your Own Risk Vol 2, Zafio's This is the East Bay..., Lookout!/Kill Rock Stars' A Slice of Lemon and Very Small Records' Wood Panel Pacer Wagon.
Black Fork was best known for the intensity of its live show, which always left both band and audience close to deaf and soaked in a hot vapor of sweat and liquor-swill. Band members have gone on to play in TALK IS POISON, THE PATTERN, SEVERANCE PACKAGE, and SAVIOURS.

From start to finish, a great punk rock record. I will nominate it for classic status. Unfortunately, the achievements of Stun Guns remain way under the radar. After releasing two excellent EP’s and a compilation track, the Stun Guns pretty much fell apart and went their separate ways. This LP wasn’t released until several years after the band’s demise. The band toured once or twice – but their live shows could be a hit or miss affair. I usually saw them at 3 AM at Churchill’s – and it’s hard to remain reasonably sober at Churchill’s until 3 AM.
Included are all the aforementioned tracks and five unreleased songs, including a cover of the Eat’s Communist Radio. The Stun Guns never really had the gravitas or historical significance of the Eat (if you’re going to use words like gravitas to describe Florida punk bands), but other than those old codgers, this is about as good as it gets. Of the previously unreleased songs, Revolution Sound is arguably the best. TV Tan is from a typical Recess Comp with about 35 other bands and is another standout. Actually, there are no standouts here because each song is better than the last one.
For the uninitiated (most of the world) - the Stun Guns were so great due to a rare combination of very good musicianship, superior songwriting skills and generally not giving a fuck about anything. Most songs concern their imagined organized crime activities. Other more reality based songs focus on substance abuse and shiftlessness. Paul Lecours (FKA Paul Enema – see Lethal Yellow) really shines here both for his lead guitar and vocals. Andrew was simply an amazing musician. Stun Guns were one of about ten noteworthy bands that feature the guitar stylings of Buddah. Machine Gun George Kelley avoids the annoying habit of other bassists of the day of being too busy – playing it just right – and has to be credited with being the lone voice of reason in the band.
After the band crashed & burned, the members all abandoned Florida. Andrew sadly passed away about the time of this record’s release. Buddah continues to play in various bands, but the others seem to be dormant. The LP comes with a written history of the band, full lyrics and a nice poster showing this release to be a faith based initiative. Not sure why the J-man has a 305 tattoo – I always thought he was from Broward.
